Where to buy English Language books in Shenzhen

Ran out of good reads? Looking for a good book to escape the innumerable number of frustrations that living abroad can dish out? Well, heading over to Hong Kong is one option, but just before you submit yourself to border crossing blues here’s a couple of places to check out in SZ.

Shenzhen Book City CBD store (Futian) (深圳书城中心店)

First stop is the massive Shenzhen Central Book Mall and library located at Futian right at Childrens Palace metro station. Best bet is to head upstairs to Eon Bookstore (Shenzhen Yiwen Book IMP&EXP.Co.) where you can find rows of imported books of many genres. It’s the best range I have seen so far – http://www.eonbooks.com.cn. Shenzhen Book City is a pretty cool place featuring many cafes such as Gaga, Pizza Hut, Croissants De France bakery & cafe, BreadTalk bakery cafe, Costa Coffee, Starbucks and more.

Metro: Childrens Palace Station (Shao Nian Gong)

 

Nanshan Book City (深圳书城南山店)

There’s a couple of shelves of books at Nanshan Book City. Go up top the top floor.

Address: Nanhai Avenue and Haide Second Rd, Nanshan District.

Metro: nearest metro station is Huo Hai (10 minutes walk)

 

Luohu Book City (深圳书城罗湖店)

Small range of English books such as for learning Chinese.

Address: 5033 Shennan Road East, Louhu District

Metro: Grand Theatre station Book City

Shenzhen Book Center (深圳购书中心)

Has a range of English language books.

Address : 2002号 Shennan Middle Road, Futian, Shenzhen

Metro: Science Museum Station

Also, for magazines and English newspapers, outside of the local Shenzhen Daily, check out the coffee shops at the western chain hotels which often have US newspapers and copies of China Daily.

    There is another bookstore in the Foreign Trade Clothing Market in Huaqiang Bei Lu that has a variety of English books. I think many of these are used, although in good condition and the prices are cheaper than what’s marked when I purchased there. It’s in the back corner.
    Also, Springbox Cafe in Shekou, not far from Sea World in the Ecool area has a very small collection of English and other foreign language books.
