Dongshan Pearl Island
Dongshan covers an area of 250,000 square meters and has a breeding area of over 2,500 mu. Whilst oft translated as ‘island’, it is part of the mainland peninsula. The quiet bay in the north is calm and fresh, and it is a natural harbor for breeding seawater pearls.
The sea pearls produced here are large, round, with less defects, high smoothness, fine texture, and uniform color. They are high-quality “Nanzhu” system. According to historical records, Dongshan has been rich in pearls since ancient times, showing the long history of Dongshan pearls.
There is a mall for pearls here and tourism to this part centers on the pearl industry although there is a small beach here too. There is also the Daya Bay Marine Biology Research Station (CN: 中国科学院大亚湾海洋生物综合实验站) and a large resort, the Dongshan Pearl Island Resort. Nearby is Mt. Qiniang.
You can also take a speedboat to the as yet undeveloped Dongjia Bay and enjoy the beach and nature.
